Elizabeth Crang Svalenius

I studied nursing at the South Sweden School of Nursing, University Hospital, Lund and graduated 1975. I graduated as a midwife from the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Gothenburg 1977. My main areas of clinical work have been on the labour/delivery ward and at the Department of Obstetric and Gynaecological Ultrasound. My Ph.D. thesis, which I defended 1997 was on the use of routine ultrasound, information and ethical aspects. Since 1998, until now, I have mainly worked at the Department of Health Sciences at the Medical Faculty of Lund University and also as a clinical lecturer in Lund and Malmö. I teach undergraduates, post graduates and doctoral students. I am an associate professor since 2007.

My main area for research is the information given before making an informed choice about any aspect of care during pregnancy and delivery, with highlights on prenatal diagnosis. I am also interested in amalgamating clinical practice with academic education for midwives and also in preparing parents for parenthood.
